The Great Car Debate

As some of y'all might know from a few previous posts a while back we have been a one car family for 10 years. Crazy I know and people often ask me how I do it. I'm a homebody for sure but it's hard sometimes not being able to go grocery shopping when I want to. Like today I'm almost out of milk and it's nap time and well what's a person to do. It's stinks some times but there have been some benefits too. Like not having two car payments are having high insurance etc.... However, we are coming to the point where having one car just isn't going to cut it anymore. First my older kids haven't been involved in to many sports because I can't get them to practice. Which in some ways I suppose is good and some not. Second we are having baby boy number four in a few weeks and well we don't all fit in our Trailblazer. With four kids and two adults we just don't have one more seat for that fourth kid. So, we are on the look out for a new car. That's where we enter the Great Car Debate!

You see gas is expensive and the hubs has an hour drive to work both ways. Now some people maybe rolling their eyes at us asking why we don't live closer. Well the man works in Dallas and I am not about to put my kids in the Dallas school system, live down there, or anything like that and well most people commute around here. So, at first we thought okay due to gas, commute, and trying to save a little we will get him a small used car to drive to work. Which makes sense. The only probably that presents it's self is going anywhere together. You see we would have to take two cars everywhere. Not really ideal and I'm not sure that it saves us money in the long run. Now I suppose we could trade in our Trailblazer but we just paid it off and we don't want two car payments. Hence being a one car family for so long.

So, we are having the debate with ourselves about buying a van or bigger family car or just getting the hubs a small car. I suppose that we should have been talking about this a lot longer or worrying about it way before baby was due but we have had a lot on our minds. Yikes what would y'all do? We are really considering the van thing. You know pretty easy to get kids in and out of, lots of room to haul other kids, and stuff like that. What kind of cars do y'all have and what do you love about them. I would love to hear your opinions. Have a great day y'all and don't worry I'll be sure to share with y'all what we eventually decide to do. Come join the Great Car Debate and tell me what ya think.

Tough decision. I think if I were you I'd get a van to fit everyone and a small fuel efficient car for the hour commutes. I am sure gas for an SUV for 2 hours of driving per day really adds up! I'm sure you'll find something that will work out!

Girl, we've been a 1 car family for a long time too - but my husband also has a motorcycle. He rides it to work when the weather is nice but I"m often stuck w/o my car too. It's hard sometimes but I don't want two car payments either :/

Also, I'd give my right arm for a mini van but hubby says no :)

XO
